Additional hours of free childcare will be available for working families from September 2017.
The Government is increasing the free childcare offer for eligible three and four year olds from 570 hours a year up to 1140 from September 2017. To qualify for the additional hours of free childcare, each parent (or the sole parent in a single parent family) will need to earn, the equivalent of 16 hours on the national minimum wage per week. The intention is to help families by reducing the cost of childcare and supporting parents to work. Childcare in the early years offers a caring and happy experience that supports children’s development and gets children ready to thrive at school and in later life.
