Curriculum

Our Curriculum Intent

At Parkview Primary School, we are proud to provide a high-quality curriculum. This is to ensure that when every child leaves us in Year 6, regardless of their background, they have the knowledge and skills to succeed in life and the modern day. We have high expectations of all teaching and learning, and this is informed by research around how children learn best. The curriculum focusses on clear end points for all, building on previous learning in a sequential manner. We ensure that all learners know and remember more in the long term using regular retrieval practice. Purposeful assessment is used well to inform our teaching and provide accurate next steps for all pupils.

“Parkview Primary School helps each of us to be the best that we can. We learn well, we behave brilliantly, and we are happy!”

Positive relationships between staff and pupils are created in all phases to ensure all children flourish academically, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally. Furthermore, we intend for the fundamental British values to permeate the ethos and life of the school in order to prepare children for life in the modern world.

Research informed practice

1. Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction

2. Tom Sherrington - Model of Learning

Teachers start all lessons by revisiting prior learning and addressing any gaps in this before moving on to new content. Each lesson starts with a 'Flashback 4' to give the children an opportunity to revisit prior learning and connect it. This allows children to know and remember more.

3. Specifically chosen schemes & approaches, created using research

White Rose Maths

White Rose Maths is a research-based educational framework emphasising the mastery approach.

It focusses on deep understanding of mathematical concepts through a structured progression of small, manageable steps, ensuring that students build a strong foundation before moving on to more complex topics.  The interactive resources support different learning styles.

Read Write Inc Phonics

Our chosen early reading scheme is recommended by the Department for Education as a systematic, synthetic phonics teaching programme.

Counting Collections

Counting Collections is an early mathematics approach to that teaches our Reception class about number. It is designed to develop children’s number sense. Pupils in Counting Collections schools make the equivalent of one additional month’s progress in number attainment.

Mastering Number

We are a Mastering Number school. This focusses on building firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 5. The aim over time is that children will with  develop fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number.

Spelling Shed

Our spelling teaching scheme is the most up-to-date scheme available based on cutting edge research into the teaching of spelling.

Kapow Scheme

Kapow is a spiral curriculum - this is an approach to education that involves regularly re-visiting the same educational topics over the course of a student’s education.

Each time the content is re-visited, the student gains deeper knowledge of the topic. It has the benefits of reinforcing information over time and using prior knowledge to inform future learning.
